Germany striker Lukas Podolski will join Arsenal for the start of next season, his current club Cologne have confirmed.
TEAM NEWS
Full-back Kieran Gibbs has a 50-50 chance of returning against Wigan as his groin injury is healing fast, according to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger. Midfielder Gervinho (ankle) is also likely to be back while midfielders Abou Diaby and Francis Coquelin (both hamstring) are set to return to the squad next week for full training. Defender Per Mertesacker is continuing his rehabilitation in Germany after suffering an ankle injury against Sunderland in February. Defender Laurent Koscielny is suspended.
Striker Hugo Rodallega is Wigan's only injury concern ahead of the trip to the Emirates Stadium. Rodallega has not played for the Latics since March 11 due to a knee problem but is back in training and will be assessed before the trip to north London. Otherwise, manager Roberto Martinez has a full squad to select from.
MANAGER QUOTES
Arsene Wenger: "That is the impression they got out of the Chelsea game because they played well and showed it again against Manchester United. Victor Moses is a threat. They are solid at the back now with three centre-backs and two protective midfielders. Overall I believe it is a team which is well balanced. Any team who fights not to go down finds some momentum. Every year they find it just before they are out of the league. They have found a structure of the team that is better suited for them maybe than before."
Roberto Maritnez: "Probably this is an even tougher task (then beating Manchester United at home). We are going away from home and playing against a side who have been as successful as ever at home. If you look at the last few performances they have been untouchable in the way they are playing their football, controlling games and scoring goals. But we know that if we are at our best, we can be competitive against anyone."

Mikel Arteta all but ended Manchester City's title challenge with a brilliant long range effort to leave Roberto Mancini's men eight points behind rivals Manchester United.
Arteta struck in the final ten minutes as Mario Balloteli was sent off after earlier escaping a sending off for an x-rated challenge one Alex Song.
Arsenal had the better chances with top scorer Van Persie going close only to be denied by the post in the second half.
Theo Walcott and Yossi Benayoun then somehow managed to miss when it looked easier to score.

Match pointers
• Since their last league win at Arsenal in October 1975, City have scored just nine goals in 26 visits to north London
• If he scores in this match, Robin van Persie will become only the fourth player to score against 17 different teams in a Premier League season – after Andy Cole (1993-94), Alan Shearer (1995-96) and Ian Wright (1996-97)
• There have been three red cards in the last three league meetings between these sides
• Arsenal have failed to score in five of their last six games against City in all competitions, including the last three at the Emirates Stadium
• Before Christmas David Silva scored five goals and provided eight assists but since Christmas he has not scored any goals and has managed just four assists.
Arsenal vs.
Manchester City
Time is ticking on the Premier League season.
With just seven games to go the amateur experts (which is pretty much all of us) are now regularly poring over the run-in prising out points to add to their team's tally.
Confidence is based on the indefinable and the undecidable. "If" has suddenly become a tradable commodity.
The perception has been that Tottenham hold a slight but significant advantage over Arsenal in the race for third place because, to coin a phrase, "their run-in is easier".
That balance could change this weekend as Arsenal entertain Manchester City in game crucial to the composition of the top four. They kick off at Emirates Stadium shortly after Manchester United complete their fixture against QPR at Old Trafford. By then, Tottenham's Saturday lunchtime trip to Sunderland will be ancient history.
The two combatants at Emirates Stadium know their chief rivals - geographically and mathematically - could well have stolen a significant advantage before kick off and, by the end of the game, at least one will have not closed the gap.
Tottenham made up three points on Arsenal last weekend and, as a result, Wenger's men are third only on goal difference. But, should they still be there on Sunday night, there may be a shift in perception.
Arsenal's run-in road would have seen its biggest potential pot-hole filled in and the defeat at QPR could be confidently categorised as "a blip". Wenger is not one for second-guessing future opponents but he feels his side have the ability to take the tension out of the situation.
"A victory for us on Sunday would show us we can reach us basic target, which is to be qualified for the Champions League next year,” he said.
“I think we play against a good team and we want to win, we want to show that we have the quality we have shown recently.
“We have been consistent in the last two months and, if we maintain that consistency, there will not be many twists and turns.
"You never know how easy a programme is in this Premier League. If you look at the last two months we won at Liverpool and Everton and lost at QPR. That was not really predictable, so it is still difficult to foresee. I am convinced we can finish third, like Tottenham are convinced they can do it. That is normal because we are at the same level of points.”
The wider football media may well cast Arsenal's ambitions as the chief support on Sunday. The main plot line will be Manchester City's title chances.
Roberto Mancini's side have picked up five points in their last four games and, in the process, lost top billing in the Premier League table.
The Italian has said that if Manchester United win on Sunday and his side lose then the eight-point gap will be impossible to claw back. In the past two seasons, Manchester City have been content with containment at Emirates Stadium and departed pleased with a point. Their ambitions will be different this time.
"What is for sure is that a draw is not good enough for them," said Wenger. "It is true that in the last two seasons they came to play for a draw - and they got it - but I believe that this time, both teams are in a situation where they want to win.
"On our side it is a 'want-win' [not must-win]. It is a home game, we feel strong at home and it is a big game and we want to win the big games."
Manchester City's position will be familiar to Arsenal supporters. Seeing their team seemingly in charge and then being superseded by a miserly Manchester United team eking out points their performances do not always merit.
"Basically, for Manchester City, it is away from home where they have lost it a little bit because they have been outstanding at home," said Wenger.
"Manchester United are surprisingly up there in a comfortable position when no-one expected them to be. They didn’t look absolutely irresistible this year and you could see that again on Monday night against Blackburn. But they managed to win the game. I believe if Manchester United [win the title] this year it is really down to experience.
"For example at Blackburn when Ryan Giggs came on in the last 15 minutes you thought they can only win it now because they know how to deal with the 'money time' - the last 15 minutes in football when it is 0-0. They don't make a mistake. They have that security at the back. They have won so many titles because they are not nervous."
However, while Manchester United have Premier League nous, Manchester City have the best talent money can buy and Wenger is not writing them off.
"Let's not be too optimistic [about their form]," he said. "I feel they still play Man United at home so it's far from over, you know. The fight is open. Man United at the moment has a little advantage but we'll see. It's very difficult to predict what will happen."
The only thing you can safely foretell is that an Arsenal victory on Sunday will make third place all the more achievable.
Manchester City are hopeful striker Sergio Aguero (foot) will be fit for Sunday's Barclays Premier League trip to Arsenal.
Defender Joleon Lescott (hip) is back in contention while midfielder Samir Nasri could also return against his former club after missing last week's draw with Sunderland after a family problem and slight injury.
Striker Carlos Tevez is again likely to be among the substitutes.
Arsenal come into the game after a surprise defeat against QPR and City boss Roberto Mancini said: “I was surprised they [Arsenal] lost because they had won six games before that but QPR probably played a good game."
“Sunday will be a difficult game but when we play against a top squad like Arsenal we should play our game and play well, not like we did against Sunderland. If we play better, we can do well."
Mancini, whose team are five points behind United, added: "It is possible United will drop points. If they win all of their games, then congratulations, they deserve to win the title, but there are seven games until the end and anything can happen.
“We lost four points in two games and that is also possible for them.”

The Hoffenheim midfielder has scored six goals since going on loan to Swansea and Reading boss Brian McDermott thinks the Icelandic star is good enough to play at The Emirates
GettyArsenal boss Arsene Wenger is interested in signing Swansea loanee Gylfi Sigurdsson, according to The Sun.
Brian McDermott managed the Iceland international at Reading and believes he has the quality to play for Wenger's side.“I spoke to Arsene about him and you could not tell me he could not play for Arsenal,” he said.Although Sigurdsson hasn't yet proved himself at a big club, he has just been named as the Premier League's Player of the Month for March. With the Gunners in a strong position to secure Champions League football next season, a move to north London would be an exciting proposition for the youngster.Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri's departures last summer mean there is space in a side that desperately needs fresh talent in order to try and end a seven-year trophy drought.
The 22-year-old attacking midfield has been a standout performer for the Welsh side this season, scoring six goals in just 11 Premier League appearances.
Sergio Aguero has revealed he could be ready to make an early return for Manchester City when they travel to Arsenal this weekend, and labelled reports about how he suffered his foot injury "incredible rumours".
The Argentina striker missed last weekend's draw with Sunderland and the previous game with Stoke after picking up what Roberto Mancini described as a "stupid" injury.
That inevitably led to speculation about what caused him to be sidelined, with one newspaper suggesting he hurt his foot "on his child's motorbike" and another claiming a trip over a step at the City training ground was to blame.
It subsequently transpired Aguero had a swollen foot, which had reacted badly to a spray applied to treat an injury, and the former Atletico Madrid star insists there is less to his absence than some have tried to claim.
"During the match against Chelsea, I injured my ankle and it was sprayed with a topical anaesthetic that caused a burn on the upper part of my right foot,'' Aguero said on his official website.
"The injury worsened after a few days and when boils appeared I was told I wouldn't play against Stoke and then against Sunderland. You can imagine how I felt, being out of playing condition when my team is trying to take the championship. It's always worse from the bench.
"After that I started receiving incredible rumours about how it all happened. I know my life is very public and I'm willing to take criticism even if I disagree with it. but I will not sit quietly while lies are being spread - even more so if they cast doubt upon my professionalism. This is a simple injury and not a plot of intrigue.''
Yet, however Aguero received the injury, his absence has been keenly felt, with City slipping up in both of the matches that he has missed and falling five points behind Premier League title rivals Manchester United.
"It's hard to believe it happened while we are fighting for the title,'' Aguero said of his injury. "This is the real status of my injury. I got back from practice today and it's not bothering me.
"If it all goes well, I'll be at coach's disposal on Sunday. This is no time for moping. I've said it before and I'll say it again - we are going to fight until the end. That's our collective goal and I'm fully committed to it.''
